May Concerts with DUO II – Movement and Sound
Concerts in Denmark and Belgium with Anna Jalving’s DUO II – Movement and Sound
The experimental concert project DUO II – Movement and Sound, initiated by the Danish violinist Anna Jalving, will play two concerts this May in Belgium; in Gent 25thMay at Miry Concertzaal and Brussels 26th May at WALTER, where they present newly written music for violin and percussion.
DUO II is an experimental concert project where violinist Anna Jalving (DK), percussionist Simon Florin (FR), and the composers Elsa Biston (FR) and Niklas Ottander (SE) explore the duo format through the relationship between two performing musicians, their bodily relation to the instruments and the relationship between the performers and the audience. All together, DUO II is a project of movement and sounds and plays with the contrast of what we perceive immediately and what is perceived subconsciously.
For Jalving, the focus of DUO II is the creative process of producing music and the exploration of the musical interaction between classical musicians and composers. Jalving, herself, explains: “This is a study of what two musicians and two composers can create together while examining the creative process in the hope of reaching a new understanding of the concept”.
Earlier this year, Danish Cultural Institute visited during rehearsals in Brussels to see how the process developed.

DUO II is presented by AUT, Aarhus Unge Tonekunstnere, a concert association and production community supporting new music and performance projects.
Besides the two concerts in Belgium, DUO II will also play two concerts in Denmark: in Aarhus 20th May at Vor Frue Kirke, and in Copenhagen 21st May at the library of Rundetaarn (the Round Tower).
