Esbjerg Ensemble in Russia, celebrating 50 years of music
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Esbjerg Ensemble, the first professional chamber ensemble in Denmark, gives concerts in St. Petersburg and Vyborg in the beginning of April.
On the tour of Esbjerg Ensemble in Russia, they will play a varied program, consisting of both old and new. Johannes Brahms, Richard Strauss and Carl Nielsen are joined by Bent Sørensen and his newly composed Falling Darkness. Falling Darkness is dedicated to Esbjerg Ensemble’s jubilee. Besides pieces by these composers the ensemble will also play a cycle of Six Children’s Songs by the great Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. The Lutosławski work will be performed together with the Boys Choir of the Glinka Choir College.

Playing three concerts on their own (one with the assistance of the Glinka Boys Choir), Esbjerg Ensemble will also participate in a concert with the title “Golden Age of Catherine the Great: Music of the epoch of Catherine the Great and Peter III” in the framework of the music educational project “The Music of the Russian Statehood”, organized by the Foundation of the International Classical Music Festival St. Petersburg Palaces.
The musicians of the ensemble will also hold a master class for wind instruments.
Esbjerg Ensemble
Esbjerg Ensemble performs classical chamber music with an uncompromising sense of quality, and is recognized for its innovative and versatile programming. The ensemble currently consists of ten passionate, expressive musicians from the four corners of the globe, all especially selected for their unique qualities. The ensemble is made up of a wind quintet, a string quartet and percussion. Guest musicians are hand-selected to extend the line-up when programs demand piano and double bass.
