Workshops: Sewing, design, and entrepreneurship

In 2025, Danish Cultural Institute entered into a partnership with internationally acclaimed fashion designer David Avido, founder of the Avido Foundation in Kibera, Nairobi – one of Africa’s largest informal settlements. The partnership provides the framework for a series of sewing workshops running into 2026, contributing to local development by promoting creative skills and strengthening community ties. The workshops are aimed at deaf women, single mothers, and young people, creating a learning environment where participants work with sewing, design, and entrepreneurship.

Through the programme, participants develop practical skills that can open pathways to employment and strengthen their connection to the local community. At the same time, the workshops serve as a meeting place where people from different backgrounds can share experiences, support one another, and grow both professionally and personally.

In this way, the project helps strengthen local communities and create new opportunities in the area.
