Exhibition: Reflected Shadows
Our understanding of ourselves is shaped by the tension between seeing and being seen – a dynamic that has been intensified by social media and the constant performance of identity. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Shadow, the exhibition Reflected Shadows explored how identity is formed and transformed through the interplay between the individual, the community, and different cultural perspectives. The exhibition was initiated and developed by the Danish artists Benny Brankovic and Signe Emma, who not only served as curators, but also participated as artists alongside the Chinese artists Xie Rong and Deng Xiao, and the Danish artist Thomas Knak.
In 2025, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen visited the exhibition. During his visit, he gained insight into the work of our cultural centre in Beijing and the many Danish-Chinese cultural projects in which we have been involved over the past 20 years.
