Intern for the Africa team (based in Denmark)
Danish Cultural Institute is looking for an intern for the Africa team in autumn 2026 – based in Copenhagen, Denmark
Are you interested in how working with culture can contribute to mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence, trust, and dialogue? Do you want to work with partnership building, programme development, and cultural exchange activities between African countries and Denmark? Do you believe in the potential of culture to create strong international relationships? Then look no further!
As an intern you will become a part of a small dynamic team responsible for the engagements in Africa, with a focus on Kenya. In cooperation with the Programme manager, you will assist with project development and coordination, partner contact, research, database management, and other various tasks. You will gain insight of what it means to be responsible for cultural and development projects funded by for example, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EU.
Your tasks
In general, your tasks will be related to project development and administration. This includes among other things:
- Tasks will focus on projects between partners on the African continent and in Denmark.
- Assist Programme Manager in daily project tasks.
- Research and other preparations. This concerns existing projects, future potential projects, and other operational tasks.
- Support with partnership development, mapping exercises, and communication.
- Work with MEAL tools to highlight project results (DCI uses Outcome Harvesting).
- Assist with planning and execution of visits and meetings.
- Assist with ad hoc tasks.
Who are you?
Your qualifications:
- You are studying within the fields of: international development cooperation, sustainable development, social innovation, cultural/creative industries, and/or international and cultural relations.
- You communicate fluently in English both written and spoken, additional fluency in Danish and/or French will be an advantage.
- Ability to work independently and thoroughly on various tasks as well as in cooperation with others.
- Well organized and structured.
- Flexible and motivated by handling a wide range of tasks simultaneously.
- Experience with Excel will be considered an asset.
It is an advantage if you can say yes to the following:
- You have experience with and/or understanding of the partnership approach.
- You are interested in/have experience with working on bridging cultures, equal partnerships, social impact, and development activities.
- You have knowledge and/or understanding of the context in one or more countries of the African continent, context knowledge of Kenya is a plus.
- You have an interest in the exchange of art and culture across borders.
What will you get out of the internship?
Through an internship at DCI your skills will be put into practice, and you will gain insight into international cultural cooperation and exchanges. In addition, you will gain insight into the working processes of a complex organization and an interface with a large network of actors, from practitioners of various arts to NGOs, public authorities, and major international organizations.
As an intern under the Programme manager, you will gain expanded knowledge of how to work with partnership and project development and fundraising, especially in relation to cultural projects. You will gain experience in holding the threads together in processes that involve many partners.

Terms and internship period
The internship is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The period is typically six months, starting around August 2026, depending on the individual’s curriculum and university requirements. Duration and working hours are agreed with your internship host and adjusted in relation to report writing/participation in courses or the like.
It is possible for our interns to agree on a flexible internship and at the same time have time to take courses at the university.
The internship is unpaid.
