Brazilian and Danish musical cooperation at Danish venues

In cooperation with the Danish Cultural Institute, danish venues presents Brazilian and Danish musicians of the highest quality

In october 2016 musicians Clara Valente and Guilherme Gautreaux went to Denmark from Brasil, to exchange sounds and words with the Danish group Astro Buddha Agogo, as part of the exchange program Musical Bridges. That meeting led to a fruitful cooperation, and now the results can be heard at several concerts in Denmark.

Concert with Valente, Gautreaux and Astro Buddha Agogo

The musical association Giant Steps in Svendborg and the jazz bar La Fontaine in Copenhagen presents concerts with an exciting group of Brazilian and Danish artists of international class. The singer Clara Valente and percussionist Guilherme Gautreaux, both Brazilian, and the Danish trio Astro Buddha Agogo will play music which crosses borders of both genre and country. The cooperation has been facilitated by the Danish Cultural Institute in Rio de Janeiro, as part of their exchange program Musical Bridges. The concert at Giant Steps is on sep. 28th at 8pm, while La Fontaine opens its doors the 29th and 30th, both days at 10pm.

Clara Valente

Clara Valente made her debut in 2004 with the critically acclaimed and successful album “Mil Coisas.” Her style is an eclectic, dance friendly mix of genres, with influences from bossa nova, samba and tango, as well as Brazilian rock, afrobeat and electronica. Besides playing in her home country she has performed in Argentina, USA and several European countries, at places like the large Lancaster Music Festival, the AghaRTA Jazz Festival in Prague and big jazz clubs. She has collaborated with Guilherme Gautreaux for selveral years.

Astro Buddha Agogo

Astro Buddha Agogo play a mix of jazz, blues and soul. The band was created 12 years ago by musicians Michael Blicher and Dan Hemmer, Hemmer playing the Hammond organ, Blicher playing saxophone and flute. During their long lasting cooperation they have also quite spectacularly formed a group with international drum guru Steve Gadd (US). Michael Blicher has a big interest in international cooperation, driven by a search for the ”universal folkloric blues.” In the forum of Astro Buddha Agogo the focus lies on the unmitigated joy of music, which the performers also share by taking it to schools around the country. At the concerts in Copenhagen and Svendborg, Morten Ærø will play the drums.

Musical Bridges

Musical Bridges is a project initiated by the Danish Cultural Institute in Rio de Janeiro and curated by the Brazilian musician and producer Mauricio Pacheco. The purpose is to strengthen the ties between Danish and Brazilian performers and facilitators of music. This is done by giving the artists the opportunity to visit each other´s countries, to compose new music and perform with the native artists of the respective country. Besides having facilitated the cooperation between Astro Buddha Agogo and Valente/Gautreaux, Musical Bridges has brought the pianist Daniel Jobim (BR) and guitarist Jakob Bro (DK) together, which has led to mutual recordings as well as a performance in Brasil during the Olympic Games in 2016.
