Asterions Hus at Paidéia and FIL Festival in Brazil

In September and October 2016, Brazilian audiences have the chance to see the unique Danish theatre group Asterions Hus, which is invited back to the Paideia Festival in São Paulo and FIL festival in Rio de Janeiro to perform their interpretation of the classic Romeo and Juliet, and carry out workshops.

Asterions Hus first visite to Brazil happened in 2014 after having been personally selected by the heads of various children’s theatre festivals all over Brazil. The visit was part of the project Canal Curumin – an initiative by Danish Cultural Institute in Brazil, which also brought the group back in 2015 with their performance My Room.

This year the collaboration takes it a step further with Asterions Hus passing on to Brazilian actors in their rendition of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet through a 6 day workshop as part of the FIL program.

Asterions Hus was created in 2003 by the actor, Martin Ammundsen, the actress and professional dancer, Tilde Knudsen, and writer and director Peter Kirk, who is the director of the theatre.

Asterions Hus performs for adults, young people and children from the age of 6. In 2013, Peter and Tilde were the main initiators behind the creation of Teaterøen (the Theatre Island) – a large area in the center of Copenhagen dedicated to theater, in particular giving room for performances and theater groups, that do not want to be submitted a specific artistic profile.

The Romeo and Juliet performance by Asterions Hus is targeting young people from the age of 12.

To be able to perform in Brazil, the Danish actors learned all of the lines in Portuguese.

The tour of Asterions Hus is co-sponsored by Oticon Fonden and the Danish Arts Foundation.
