Animation about nature: Children’s stories from Sundarban

Together with local children in the Sundarbans, the story of the forest goddess Bon Bibi was transformed into an animated film, due for release in 2026. Through animation and storytelling, the children were given the opportunity to express their own experiences of nature and the environmental challenges facing their region.

The Sundarbans is the world’s largest mangrove forest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under increasing pressure from climate change, cyclones, and flooding. The project highlighted these threats while connecting local culture and understandings of nature with contemporary environmental perspectives through the children’s imaginative stories and visual expressions. At the same time, the process helped strengthen their creative, technical, and communication skills.
