A new cultural policy in Moldova
In 2025, our Moldovan partner, the Coalition of Independent Cultural Actors in Moldova, achieved a major breakthrough with the completion of the country’s first draft law on strategic partnerships between the public sector and civil society. The draft legislation was developed through a two-year process involving civil society organisations, legal experts, and local communities.
The initiative strengthened the role of the independent cultural sector as a policy actor and contributed to the coalition’s recommendations being fully incorporated into Moldova’s National Culture Strategy for 2025–2035. Through nationwide public awareness campaigns and policy dialogue, the rights of cultural workers were elevated as a matter of public and political importance.
Taken together, these efforts have strengthened coordinated and evidence-based advocacy for cultural policy development in Moldova.
