EVENTS OF 1917-1920 IN THE EYES OF THE SCANDINAVIANS IN RUSSIA

On 13 September the international conference on the 100th anniversary of Russian revolution will be held at the St. Petersburg State University’s Institute of History (5 Mendeleevskaya Liniya).

The speakers at plenary sessions will be archivist of Copenhagen’s Workers Museum Jesper Jørgensen, Senior Researcher of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yulia Kudrina, member of the Danish Parliament Mogens Lykketoft, Finnish researcher Viena-Tuuli Vasara, Professor of the University Valery Vozgrin, and Associate Professor of the University Boris Zharov.

 
A number of speeches will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first visit to Russia in 1917 by Hermod Lannung (1895-1996), member of the Danish Parliament, UN delegate and chairman of the Denmark – USSR Society (later, Denmark – Russia Society). Hermod Lannung arrived to Petrograd to work at the Danish diplomatic representation office and witnessed political changes in the country during the WWI and October revolution. He wrote about these years in his memoir, entitled “My Russian Youth” (Min russiske ungdom).

The conference at the Institute will start at 10:30 with opening of the exhibition “Hermod Lannung – Purposeful Bridge Builder between Denmark and Russia,” created by the Workers Museum.
