Brainstorms

Our brain consists of a tangled network of neurons and blood vessels, yet each individual thread of thought forms a unique pattern that shapes our consciousness, personality and way of thinking.

This makes the brain the most complex organ in the human body and one of the most important – which is why it was at the centre of the exhibition Brainstorms at our cultural centre in Beijing. The exhibition featured embroidered brains accompanied by personal mind maps, created by local collaborators.

The Brainstorms exhibition was developed through a series of public workshops on neurology and mental health, organised in collaboration with Chinese artists and healthcare professionals for local participants. A key element of these workshops was inspired by the German-Dutch textile artist and researcher Monica Auch’s project Stitch Your Brain.
