Liveability

How can citizens’ perspectives be better integrated into urban development?
The “Liveability – Designing Public Services for Resilient Neighbourhoods” project trains public administrations in new ways to involve citizens in creating liveable and attractive urban environments shaped around people’s needs. Eleven organisations, including Danish Cultural Institute, and six municipalities across the Baltic Sea region – Kiel (DE), Gdynia (PL), Guldborgsund (DK), Kolding (DK), Pori (FI) and Riga (LV) – are collaborating on the project.
As part of this effort, Danish Cultural Institute organised two public debate events in Copenhagen in 2024 with a focus on human-centred urban planning. Among the participants was the internationally acclaimed architect Jan Gehl, who shared his perspectives on urban quality of life and its challenges.
These debates brought together experts and citizens to discuss how cities like Copenhagen can evolve in a more inclusive and sustainable direction.
