From India to Denmark – climate and nature through children’s eyes
Perlefilm is currently putting the finishing touches on Bon Bibi: Guardian of the Mangrove Forest. The animated film tells the story about the world’s largest mangrove forest, located in the Sundarbans delta on the border between India and Bangladesh. Here, people live side by side with a natural environment that is under pressure from rising sea levels, deforestation, and climate change. At the same time, the region is home to powerful stories of nature, community, and courage.
The film was created in collaboration with children from Sundarban and tells the story of the forest goddess Bon Bibi and the tiger demon Dokkhin Rai. Drawing on the children’s own experiences and perspectives, the film explores how local culture and traditional understandings of nature can inspire new stories about climate and the environment. The creative process also gave the children hands-on experience in storytelling and visual communication.
The project invites Danish children to engage with the film and gain insight into environmental conditions that shape everyday life far beyond their own reality. Inspired by the film, Danish children can create their own stop-motion animations, exploring climate, nature, and sustainability through creative workshops. In this way, global challenges become both tangible and personally relevant.
The animated film will be accompanied by a short documentary about the Sundarbans and the project itself. Both films will be released in September 2026.
