Voices of Dignity 2025
On 24 February 2025, the Danish Cultural Institute, in collaboration with Ukraine House in Denmark, marked the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine with the event ‘Voices of Dignity’. Through poetry, music, and speeches, the human consequences of the war and Ukrainian resilience were highlighted.
The award-winning Ukrainian poets Yaryna Chornohuz and Artur Dron read aloud in their native language. Both are soldiers in the Ukrainian army, and they shared, amongst other things, poetry about the reality at the front. Their poems were read aloud in Danish by Danish Brigadier Generals Lone Træholt and H.C. Enevold.
Using a Russian URAGAN MLRS missile, converted into a string instrument, composer Roman Grygoriv performed his piece ‘Song of the Unborn’. Chamber music pieces were also performed by Ukrainian musicians from ‘Kyiv Kamerata’.
The podium was also taken by Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen and the Ukrainian Maksym Butkevych, a human rights activist, journalist and member of PEN Ukraine – who was recently exchanged as a prisoner of war.
The evening’s hosts were the director of Ukraine House, Nataliya Popovych, and our own regional manager, Henriette Borg Reinholdt.
The event highlighted the role of culture in fostering reflection, dialogue, and solidarity in a time marked by conflict.
