Mayor for 10 minutes

In 2025, Danish Cultural Institute, in collaboration with our Moldovan partner Laolalta, implemented a project designed to encourage greater engagement in local politics. Drawing on the urban development approach known as cultural planning, installations were placed in public spaces to simulate the mayor’s desk, inviting citizens in Chișinău to share their ideas for addressing local challenges. Through interviews and reflective exercises, participants developed their analytical skills, including a deeper understanding of the conditions shaping their lives and the knowledge needed to participate actively in democratic processes. The project demonstrated how culture can foster critical dialogue, strengthen reflection, and contribute to vibrant democratic development among groups with limited political participation.
