Biofonia at COP30

With marimba from the rainforest and a symphony orchestra from the Amazon, world leaders were made to open their eyes to nature, culture and the path towards a sustainable future, when the work BIOFONIA brought the voices of nature and the power of art onto the climate agenda at COP30 in Brazil. The work was created by composer Mathias Madsen Munch in close collaboration with artists from the Coral Guaray Oua ensemble in the Atlantic Forest, representing the Guaraní people, as well as Pablo Eli Taricuarima Piñedo and Danna Gaviotta from the Kukama-Kukamiria people of the Amazon. The project created new connections between local artists’ practices and the classical orchestral tradition, and focused attention on climate, cultural exchange and access to the arts across social divides.
