SustainARTability

SustainARTability was a two-week residency programme for art students from Latvia, other EU countries, and the United Kingdom. It was organised by EUNIC in Latvia and the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, in collaboration with the Art Academy of Latvia.
The programme culminated in the exhibition NO WHITE FLAGS, shown at the DUO art hall in Riga. Here, students presented personal reflections on sustainability through sculpture, weaving, film, text, and painting, developed under the guidance of Latvian artists Kristians Brekte and Ieva Stalšene. The works in the exhibition reimagined the white flag of surrender as a powerful symbol of resistance, ecological awareness, and hope.
The project fostered cultural dialogue across borders and demonstrated how art can inspire shared visions for a sustainable future.
