Summer Readings: Knud Romer “Nothing but Fear”

Reading from russian translation of Nothing but Fear by Knud Romer at the Summer Readings

On June 19th at 20:00 at the Poryadok Slov bookshop, actress Olga Bogdanova, Malyshchitskiy Chamber Theatre, will read an excerpt from Knud Romer’s Nothing But Fear (Den som blinker er bange for døden), in the framework of the “Summer Readings” festival.

The translation of Nothing But Fear into Russian by Elena Krasnova was published last year by the Symposium publishing house.

Summer Readings is a part of the large-scale project “Reading St. Petersburg: Choosing Best Foreign Writer,” organized by the Mayakovsky Library in cooperation with consulate generals and cultural institutes.  From June 19th to 21st, actors from St. Petersburg theaters will read extracts from books of the contemporary foreign literature at book shops, cafes, and art clubs.

About the book:

“The Second World War is long over but its legacy continues to tear a town – and a young boy’s life – apart. Knud is growing up in Falster, a small Danish town in the 1960s. The war is over but the Germans are still hated and Knud has a German mother. Bullied and persecuted at school, he retreats into the eccentric world of his family’s history – but he can’t escape the fact that, for him, his parents, and his paternal grandparents, the war is still being fought. Depicting a town and a family devastated by prejudice, Nothing But Fear is written with empathy and venom in equal measure.”
