Inger Christensen’s ”Alphabet” in Polish translation

Last week the collection of poems ”Alphabet” by Inger Christensen appeared on the Polish market, translated by Director of DCI in Poland, Bogusława Sochańska, and published by LOKATOR. The publication is followed up by a meeting 7 March with the translator led by Zofia Król.

Inger Christensen (1935-2009) is an eminent representative of Danish postmodernism. Honored with among others Swedish Academy Nordic Prize (1994), Austrian National Prize in Literature (1994) and Grand Prix at the International Biennale of Poetry in Liège (1995), she was considered by many European critics a Danish candidate for the Nobel Prize.

The poet’s unusual character in the context of postmodernist literature and thought lies among other things in that despite the pessimism about human and the future, her works are saturated with delight over the beauty of the world. Christensen’s work has gained international recognition, and her works have been translated into many languages.
