Lecture with Denis Rivin: New Materiality – New Technologies in Service of Inhabitants of Future Cities

On June 7 2017, curator Denis Rivin will give a thought-provoking lecture on the latest trends and some of the most groundbreaking technologies that are about to transform our societies in the near future.

The questions are many: How does digitization relate to democratization? How can technology benefit the development of urban community? And how can you be a critical optimist when it comes to the future?

The development of new technologies has had a profound effect on all aspects of our lives. While some are experimenting and racking their brains with how to use them in the service of man, others are skeptical towards artificial intelligence, self-driving cars, office robots or smart city management systems. Even places where the environment seems to be completely analog, new technologies are being implemented.

Denis Rivin’s lecture will be accompanied by workshops and a walk from pl. Małachowskiego to pl. Defilad on June 8. The event has met great interest and is already sold out.

Denis Rivin was born in 1984 in Kiev, Ukraine, and has lived in Denmark since 1991. He has a background in Art History from Copenhagen University and Digital Design and Communication from the IT-University of Copenhagen. Denis Rivin has worked extensively with cultural entrepreneurship, e.g. publishing magazines and as a project manager from 2011-2012 at the Danish Cultural Institute in Saint Petersburg helping organizing art exhibitions and concerts. In 2013, Denis shifted his attention to future studies and is now primarily occupied with the fields of technological advancement, social interaction and global resistance movements. He has founded two startups; Ima Read, a software solution that innovates the interface between humans and digital texts, and OF COURSE OFF COURSE – a communication bureau that focuses on global improvements in a time of endless streams of negative “Breaking News”.

The event is organized by the Bęc Zmiana Foundation which supports artistic and cultural activities aimed at discovering the spaces and ways in which the spirit of the times makes itself manifest. The Foundation acts as an initiator of interdisciplinary events, which engage creators in the field of art, architecture, design, music, and carries out the majority of its projects in the public space.

The lecture is arranged within the series SYNCHRONIZACJA 2017.
