Christina Hagen at Transpoesie Festival in Brussels

Poet Christina Hagen attends Transpoesie event at BOZAR in Brussels

Wednesday the 26th of September the BOZAR in Brussels will spotlight five young and talented women voices, at an event of the poetry festival Transpoesie. The theme of the evening is female poets after #metoo. The featured writers are Ann Cotton from Austria, Olga Pek from Czech Republic, María Eloy-García from Spain, Simona Atangana Bekono from the Netherlands, and Christina Hagen from Denmark.

This Transpoesie evening will highlight women poets one year after the #metoo scandal erupted. They will read excerpts from their own work while translations in Dutch, French and English are projected on a screen behind them. The new generation of poets take the literary stage with plenty of self-confidence and great commitment, having cast off any yoke.

Earlier this year DCI invited another strong Danish voice to talk about power asymmetry between genders

In the second part of the evening, the famous Belgian singer DAAN will read poems by Sylvia Plath, accompanied by the Brussels-based pianist Grażyna Bienkowski.

Transpoesie – Female Poets after #metoo will take place at BOZAR on the 26th of September, 20:00 – 21:30. September 26th is also the European Day of Languages.

Christina Hagen

Christina Hagen is an awarded Danish poet who has raised her voice in the gender debate through essays, debate columns, and poetry collections, by expanding the problematic issues of the stereotypical perception of our relationships, our self-image, and the gender-based power structures.  She has written about how society prefer a beautiful girl over a smart girl, which made her take a body double for a month who lived up to the female ideals in the patriarchy, and she has fought for female authors’ rights, because traditionally, they have harder conditions in the pursuit of acknowledgement than men have.

She is not afraid to take a stand in the public debate.

Transpoesie

Besides several evenings of readings and a conference on multilingual education and cultural expression, the Transpoesie project also consists of an effort to bring poetry into the public sphere in Brussels. On posters throughout the public transportation system of the city, poems can be read in both their original languages and in French, Dutch and English translations.

A big annual poetry festival in Poland expands on the concept
