Carl Nielsen Competition for Young Musicians & Concert at Taurida Palace

St. Petersburg Music Lyceum organises second Carl Nielsen competition for young musicians from November 11-15 2017.

This November the second Carl Nielsen competition for young musicians in St. Petersburg unfolds. The contest will find the best performance of Carl Nielsen’s works among students of the city’s music schools. Piano, folk and wind instruments are included, played by 35 participants.

 

At the closing award ceremony there will be a performance by Danish flutist Ulla Miilmann with the International Symphony Orchestra “Taurida” under Mikhail Golikov. The closing event takes place on Wednesday November 15th at Taurida Palace, 19.00. The Programme features two works by Carl Nielsen: the Flute Concerto and the Clarinet Concerto. Contest laureates will also take part in the concert.

 

Ulla Miilmann is the principal flutist at the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. In 2006 she was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Soloist Performance with Orchestra. International Symphony Orchestra “Taurida” under Mikhail Golikov follows traditions of cultural and artistic heritage of “Taurida” Capella orchestra and choir. Carl Nielsen is widely recognized as Denmark’s most prominent composer, he was both a violinist and a conductor as well.

 

The competition and concert are supported by the Foundation of the Music Lyceum and the Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen’s Foundation.
