Anders Mogensen and Hagans/Konarski Quintet in Poland

International jazz project Hagans/Konarski Quintet with Danish contributions plays in Poland

 

 

Hagans/Konarski Quintet is an international jazz project uniting musicians from the USA, Poland, Denmark and Sweden. American trumpeter Tim Hagans has started cooperation with one of the most promising Polish saxophonists of the young generation Marek Konarski and great Danish-Swedish musicians Carl Winther (piano), Johnny Åman (double bass) and legendary Anders Mogensen (drums). Now the band will go on tour in Poland in April, during which it will visit Gorzów Wielkopolski, Warsaw and Cracow.

 

Hagans/Konarski Quintet

Tim Hagans – renowned jazz trumpeter, arranger, and composer. Nominated for Grammy awards for Best Instrumental Composition for “Box of Cannoli” from The Avatar Sessions (2010 Fuzzy Music); Best Contemporary Jazz CD for “Re-Animation” (2000 Blue Note) and “Animation*Imagination” (1999 Blue Note).

 

Marek Konarski – Polish saxophonist, composer and improviser. In 2011 he moved to Denmark to study at the Syddansk Musik Konservatorium. The artist has won many international awards, including the title of the Musician of the Year 2015 on the island of Funen, an award granted by the Danish Union of Jazz Musicians. He is active on the European scene, both as a leader and a member of many projects. His style is influenced by Scandinavian music, Polish folk music and be-bop.

 

Anders Mogensen – one of the most sought after musicians on the Danish as well as the international jazz scene. He has been a member of ground-breaking bands such as When Granny Sleeps, Jakob Anderskov Trio, Doky Brothers, Kasper Tranberg Yakuza Zhuffle, Lovedale and Copenhagen Art Ensemble. He is associated professor and head of the jazz department at Carl Nielsen Academy of Music, Odense, where he has tought a new wave of young Polish jazz musicians.

Carl Winther – one of Denmark’s best piano players. Son of the world famous composer and trumpet player, Jens Winther, he started touring at an early age. He has worked with a host of international names. Winther has a true love for Latin and African rhythms. His own composition are inspired by all this, and also includes the funky styles of Herbie Hancock’s 70s music and avangardistic ideas. Winther has been awarded for his precise and extravagant compositions and his amazing performance skills.

 

Johnny Åman – born in Finland Åman moved to Sweden in 2005 to study music at Malmö Academy of Music, and in 2010 he graduated with a masters degree. Today he is one of the busiest bass players in Sweden. Åman is a member of Cennet Jönsson’s Triple Bass Fantasy and like the rest of Hagans/Konarski Quintet he has played all over with recognized names.

 

 

During the tour the band will also conduct workshops at The Frederic Chopin State School of Music in Warsaw.
